We are honored to have been invited to share our work supporting refugees and asylum seekers on Sunday, September 22, at a festival celebrating the opening of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ expansion, The REACH. Please join us for our panel discussion on “Continuing Global Citizenship: Service to Refugees and Asylum Seekers.”
Three RPCV panelists include NPCA president and CEO Glenn Blumhorst, who recently volunteered with asylum-seekers in El Paso; Eirene Chen, just back from volunteering in a Greek refugee camp in an NPCA/PCC4Refugees program; and Ron Ison, who has mentored refugee kids for years in Cincinnati and will be accompanied by some of the young people. Our own Valerie Kurka will moderate the discussion in the Justice Forum from 2:50 pm – 3:50 pm.

Panelists, students and members of PCC4Refugees would love to meet you for conversation and interactive activities in Studio F, adjoining the Justice Forum, before and after the discussion. Hear what the students say about coming to the U.S. and finding a mentor in Ron Ison. Learn what Eirene Chen’s experience was like volunteering on the Greek island of Lesvos. Speak with our volunteer group about what we have done to support refugees and asylum seekers, and learn what you can do in your community.

Visit the new Peace Corps Gallery and join the premier of “A Towering Task: A Peace Corps Documentary,” narrated by Annette Bening, showing twice on the 22nd 4 pm and 7:00 pm. Entry to the screening will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, so arrive early!
The all-day event, with full public access and interactive activities for the whole family, will be co-hosted by National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) and RPCVs of Washington, D.C. (RPCV/W) in collaboration with A Towering Task: A Peace Corps Documentary. More information on the schedule of events for the day is found on NPCA's website.
Free, timed-entry tickets are sold out but please continue to check the Kennedy Center's website as tickets are being released on a rolling basis. We recommend arriving 30 minutes prior to your scheduled time slot. If capacity has been reached for your time slot before you arrive, you may have to wait in a stand-by line. In addition, passes do not guarantee entry to specific performances or events. All performances and events are first-come, first-served general admission until venue capacity has been reached. There is a 6 pass limit per order. Passes are also available by phone at (202) 467-4600 or in person at the Box Office.
